Well, hello!  My name is Jenn Moore and I want to welcome you to!

My quest for simple living began early (I started a savings account after getting my first job in 5th grade), and I have had failures and successes along the way.  I actually flushed my toilet with sink and shower water for 2 years, but more on that later.  I’m a Midwest transplant who has called the left coast home for 10 years and I live in the city with my husband and my 1 year old daughter.  Because we are a one income family, we live simply, partly by necessity, mostly by choice.  I moved to the West Coast to work in Urban Missions and it was there that I took a vow to live simply.  Since then, I have tried to understand simplicity from the context of trying to be like Jesus, someone who lived humbly, loved others greatly, and died for each of us.  If he cared for others that much, I owe it to him to try to love others by giving what I can and caring about what I buy, what I spend, and what I do with the time and money I have.  That sometimes seems impossible in an expensive city, especially with my love of the coffee shop, but we’re working at it.

My goal is to try new places and discover new things with my family and friends.  My other goal is to save and budget so that our daughter can spend quality time with both her parents.  I want to make the most of our life without having to work 80 hours a week to pay for it.  I also try to take small steps to live a more sustainable, environment friendly life.  I have been fortunate enough to teach a class and workshop on living simply and social justice issues in the past, and this blog is one step I can take to be more accountable to my goal of living simply in the present and future.  I hope to share with you what I’ve learned and what I’ve done, and I hope to learn from you as well.  One the thing I know for sure is that Simple Living Rules!
